Highscore Co-Op 2024

I had the great fortune of being selected to participate in this year's Highscore Co-Op 2024 hosted by APRA AMCOS where composers, songwriters and sound designers, guided by experienced mentors, created music and sound effects for the game 'Innchanted' by DragonBear Studios. 

To sum up the experience, it was WILD! Two full days of collaboration, online discord meetings and learning how to use fmod with seven other composers and sound designers grouped in pairs (a composer with a sound designer).

I recorded some live acoustic guitar and a wooden toy flute along with synths and percussion. I wanted to give it a somewhat tribal, earthy feel but also include some modern elements as well.

GDC 2024

I just had an incredible, life changing, mind blowing week. I attended GDC 2024 (Game Developers Conference) in San Francisco and all I can say is I CAN NOT WAIT TO WRITE MUSIC AND DESIGN SOUNDS FOR GAMES!
​
I would again love to thank Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries for the funds that enabled me to attended this event. I am truly grateful and I am looking forward to continuing this journey and writing for my first game in the near future!

This is a truly passionate, creative and energetic industry and I want to thank every person who took the time to talk and share with me. Every person I met, saw and heard has inspired me and revealed a world that I knew very little about, But now that I do.. I'm all in!

decibel new music ensemble arrangements - twin peaks was 30

i was extremely honoured to be asked by decibel new music ensemble to arrange five angelo baladamenti songs from the classic show twin peaks. in addition to arranging these fantastic tunes,  i will also be playing guitar on some of them including 'falling' (see right). Expect synth instrumentals and Cruise-inspired songs backed by signature twanging guitars and reverb-drenched soundscapes. the ensemble consists of viola, cello, synth, woodwinds, drums/perc and will feature rachael dease on vocals. event info here.

mirabilis collective commission

last year I dreamed of writing an original piece for a chamber ensemble. this year, the dream came true Thanks to stephanie nicholls and tresna stampalia of mirabilis collective! i sent mirabils my original work 'home' and they decided to play it at their next concert called 'shimmer' in april. in addition to this, i was commissioned to write a piece about hope which will be performed in may. i have just sent off the parts for both pieces and am extremely excited to hear them performed. i was also fortunate enough to get guidance and feedback on both pieces which i learned so much from and am so grateful.

Tender is the Night - Dan howls and albert pritchard (New nausea)

my two string arrangements are done for the first tender is the night  show this year. titn is a string quartet paired with a prominent western australia singer/songwriter. i really pushed myself on these and tried things i have never done before such as using super long and slow glisses. check out the example on the right. some are even longer later in the piece.

grant to go to game developers conference 2024 (san francisco)

what?!!! i still can't believe i am going to gdc 2024 in san francisco! A big, huge, enormous thank you to The Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (DLGSC). looking forward to sharing a vlog on the whole experience when i return. stay tuned!

part 2 of lafci (la film conducting intensive)

i attended (online) the first half of lafci in november participating in classes taught by angel velez, conrad pop and bill ross to name a few. i learned so much. the second half was witnessing the fellows conducting a piano, a string quartet and a full sized orchestra as we watched on. it was absolutely phenomenal! i'm so thankful that i got to be a part of it and witness the talents and skills of so many film composers. my dream is to conduct my own films score so this is all prep to fulfil my dream!

TAYLOR SWIFT ORCHESTRAL ARRANGEMENT

I completed an Orchestral arrangement of a medley of three Taylor Swift songs. it was an epic musical adventure and i loved every moment of it. i chose 'the man', 'cruel summer' and 'i knew you were trouble'. I used to sing 'i knew you were trouble' when i used to perform sometimes so it was fun to arRange it for an orchestra, thats for sure!

PREMIERE AT LUNA CINEMA for short film/4 vignettes

My second short film, or should I say a culmination of 4 short vignettes with the over-arching title 'our place'  was premiered at Luna Leederville Cinema. Another incredibly special moment where I was able to hear my music on the big screen! here are the end credits if you want to have a listen.

LAFCI (LOS ANGELES CONDUCTING FILM INTENSIVE) 2023​

I was chosen to participate in lafci which i attended online as it is held in la. all in preparation for my dream of conducting my own film score with an orchestra at abbey road and/or air studios!

Falling through - recording vox

during my time at artsix (see below in september) i collaborated with producer michael ellery on a song i worte called 'falling through'. the artsix projects were all roughly 1.5-2mins long so mike and i finished the full track. i wrote another verse and mike wrote some great chords for the bridge which i wrote the melody and lyrics to. can't wait to share it when it's released!

​short film premiere at luna cinema

composing for this short film was such a fantastic experience. it's called 'delusion' directed by Lora Ntounia and is a psychological thriller/drama where i really got to let lose on some seriously dark vibes. I especially went all out on the credits.

Women On The Podium 

my dream is to conduct my own movie score so i attended, for the second year in a row, women on the podium where i learned from the amazing alice humphries and jessica gethin more about the art of conducting. i even got to conduct 2 pianos and a string quartet. terrifying and magnificent!

artsix

I was fortunate enough to be chosen to take part in a world first event called Artsix spearheaded by Kav Temperley (Eskimo Joe) which involved a collaboration of music artists, visual artists, producers and digital animators to create digital art. I had a chance to sing, play slide guitar, arrange and compose for these tracks along with the other fantastic music artists. It was one of the most fun and inspiring musical adventures of my life and this is what we came up with (right).

tender is the night 
​
I absolutely love arranging and had the immense pleasure of writing 2 new string quartet arrangements for Tender is the Night which are intimate gigs pairing West Australian songwriters with a string quartet.

Enhancing the song and capturing the spirit of the songwriter's ideas and intent is like taking a little trip in someone else's world. It's eye opening, fun and intriguing. 

It's times like these I'm also grateful for my jazz arranging background as well as having been a singer/songwriter myself.

lord of the rings rescore

When I first saw Lord of the Rings I was completely in love with the movie and the score written by Howard Shore. A dream would be to one day score a movie so grand loved by so many, maybe even a LOTR movie in the future! I wanted to see what it was like so I did it, editing down the footage from the war at Helm's Deep to 5 minutes. Here it is!

I submitted an original composition for wind quintet for a call for scores by Nu Quintet. It was the first time writing for this line-up and I tapped into my beloved Stravinsky vibes heaps on this one!

Huge news. One of my cues has been placed on the huge hit Korean Netflix show PHYSICAL: 100! I just started watching it a few days ago and was so hyped about it and then find out my music is on the show!
